Evolve Consulting Engineers is fully committed to the Structural Engineers Declare Climate & Biodiversity Emergency campaign, which is encouraging all structural engineering practices to work alongside peers, clients and subsequent supply chains, in order to reduce the harmful effects of the construction industry on the environment.

With our industry contributing almost 40% of total energy-related carbon emissions, it is clear that building construction is having a devastating impact on our climate and ecosystem.

The UK government has set a ‘net zero’ target to completely reduce or offset greenhouse gases by 2050. Structural Engineers Declare, a campaign initiated by BuroHappold with support from the Happold Foundation, seeks to garner a pledge from every structural engineeering practice in the UK to start working together towards achieving this target with immediate effect.

Key campaign priorities include raising awareness of the climate and biodiversity emergencies and the urgent need for action; gaining Government backing and increased financial support; establishing key mitigation strategies; knowledge sharing; reducing construction waste and waste of resources; upgrading existing buildings instead of demolition and new build where possible, and championing a more regenerative design process to create positive-impact, self-sustaining buildings that sit in harmony with the living world.
