‘The Barcode’ development at Drake Circus, Plymouth has earned a place on the shortlist for this year’s Structural Steel Design Awards.

The Awards aim to celebrate excellence in the field of steel construction in the UK and Ireland in terms of efficiency, cost effectiveness, aesthetics, sustainability and innovation.

The strong shortlist includes a variety of projects across a wide range of sectors, including health, education, residential, commercial, retail and leisure, as well as a number of bridges.

The complex Drake Circus structure, built on the site of the former Bretonside bus station in Plymouth city centre, features a 5505-tonne steelwork frame amounting to 32.5km in length. Evolve has also won the UK Tekla Structural Designer Award 2020 for the project.

The winners of the Structural Steel Design Awards, which are jointly sponsored by BCSA and Trimble Solutions (UK) Ltd, will be announced on Thursday 1 October.
