EVOLVE are shortlisted for the AJ’s Retrofit and Reuse awards!
Great to see our project with Chapman Architects, for Touchlight, to bring new life to the Morelands and Riverdale Buildings in Hampton being showcased as part of the NLA adaptive reuse publication, along with its shortlisting for the AJ’s Retrofit and Reuse awards.
This project involved the refurbishment of a Grade II listed Victorian water works constructed in 1852. The site was rescued by the client in the belief that the vast buildings could be restored and reused for biotech start up businesses.
We focussed on repairing the existing fabric where necessary and touching the building as lightly as possible to realise the requirements of a modern office in a cutting edge life science industry. Different building elements were all sized to fit with existing door openings and erected using the original gantry crane with the construction sequence very much like the proverbial ‘ship in a bottle’.
